About
Our History
The society has been at its present location at Broadstairs Railway Station
for about seventeen years having moved from Hawley Square Margate.
After first adapting the original station parcels office to a new clubroom, the
societies layout was transferred into the new premises. At that stage it was
only half completed. The first layout to be exhibited was built by the junior
section for showing at a local exhibition.
The society expanded to allow for more layouts by building a free standing
floor within the clubroom forming a new mezzanine floor.
An exhibition was held in Margate in the eighties and the society has since
exhibited at various venues including Wilson's Hall Ramsgate, Royal Marines
Barracks Deal, the Centre Piece and Stour Centre at Ashford, Sandwich
Guildhall, Black Lion Centre Gillingham, King Ethelberts', Dover Transport
Museum and St. Georges' School Broadstairs. In 2018 we held an exhibition
at the Hornby Visitor Centre in Margate Kent. All of the above towns are in
the county of Kent, England.
We now run the local exhibition each year at St. Georges School in
Westwood Road, Broadstairs, Kent. The society is now displaying further a
field, including Alexandra Palace London, the Museum of Transport in
Manchester, and with both club and members' private layouts at
exhibitions.
